| | cecil b demovie 12/19/2007 | | Awesome comedy that had the only kind of humor in the 80's that made sence, because as a man in my 20's at that time I was looking for women and doing that kind of drugs. It struck a cord with a generation that is looking backwards these days. |

Trancers 1985 PG-13, 85 min. Genre: Sci-Fi aka: Future Cop
Director: Charles Band Cast: Tim Thomerson, Helen Hunt, Michael Stefani, Art LaFleur, Telma Hopkins, Richard Herd, Anne Seymour, Miguel Fernandez, Biff Manard, Peter Schrum
There's trouble in Angel City (formerly Los Angeles) in the year 2247. Jack Deth (Tim Thomerson) thought that he had taken care of "The Whistler" (Michael Stefani), who can call up his zombie-like Trancers. Then Jack finds out that Whistler has gone back to 1985 L.A. to get rid of the ancestors of the city's council. Jack goes back to stop that nonsense. Yes–the movie's cheap price tag shows, but it is fun. There are four sequels.

Trancers 4: Jack of Swords 1994 R, 75 min. Genre: Sci-Fi
Director: David Nutter Cast: Tim Thomerson, Clabe Hartley, Stacie Randall, Ty Miller, Teri Ivens, Rona Hartner, Alan Oppenheimer, Stephen Macht, Mark Arnold, Lochlyn Munro
Jack (Tim Thomerson) should have taken care of all the Trancers by now but–wait! He is off on a mission, and his time machine is broken by a plant creature from his last mission. Jack ends up in another dimension at a place run by vampires. He (somehow) determines that these are another strain of Trancers. Interestingly, they all have Shakespearian names. Jack joins a resistance group to overturn the evil leadership. One more sequel left.

Trancers 5: Sudden Deth 1995 R, 73 min. Genre: Sci-Fi
Director: David Nutter Cast: Tim Thomerson, Stacie Randall, Ty Miller, Teri Ivens, Mark Arnold, Clabe Hartley, Stephen Macht, Rona Hartner, Lochlyn Munro, Alan Oppenheimer
This final episode (at least so far) finds Jack trying to get out of the dimension where the last episode left him. The Trancers are sure to retaliate and try to regain power, so he must hurry. But–to get home he needs a magical jewel, and he starts the quest. In the meantime, the evil leader is revived, so Jack's quest will be hard. There's no question that it is time to bid a fond farewell to Jack Deth and the Trancers.

Trancers II 1991 R, 87 min. Genre: Sci-Fi
Director: Charles Band Cast: Tim Thomerson, Helen Hunt, Megan Ward, Biff Manard, Martine Beswick, Jeffrey Combs, Alyson Croft, Telma Hopkins, Art LaFleur, Barbara Crampton
OK–the original, though cheap, was fun. But this one can't get away with the low production values (as they say) without comment. Jack (Tim Thomerson) got stuck in the past (now, 1991) after dealing with the Trancer problem in 1985. He is married to Lena (Helen Hunt) and another Trancer threat emerges, led by Whistler's (from the original) brother. To help Jack out, the 23rd-century council sends his wife back from the future. And you think he had problems before.

Director: C. Courtney Joyner Cast: Tim Thomerson, Melanie Smith, Andrew Robinson, Tony Pierce, Ed Beechner, Helen Hunt, Megan Ward, Stephen Macht, Telma Hopkins, R.A. Mihailoff
The series takes a slight turn for the better after the poor #2. Jack (Tim Thomerson) is yanked to his own time (2252) due to a new Trancer threat. It is determined that this strain can be traced back to 2005, so off he goes. Along with an escapee from the Trancer training program (Melanie Smith), he sets about saving the world (again). Two more of these sequels to go.

Who's Harry Crumb? 1989 PG-13, 91 min. Genre: Comedy
Director: Paul Flaherty Cast: John Candy, Jeffrey Jones, Annie Potts, Barry Corbin, Tim Thomerson, Shawnee Smith, James Belushi, Valri Bromfield, Joe Flaherty, Stephen Young

The Wrong Guys 1988 PG, 86 min. Genre: Comedy
Director: Danny Bilson Cast: Louie Anderson, Richard Lewis, Richard Belzer, Franklyn Ajaye, Tim Thomerson, Brion James, Biff Manard, John Goodman, Ernie Hudson, Timothy Van Patten
Yes, there are even reunions for Cub Scout members, and at this reunion the five decide to go on a camping trip. That was a mistake, since they get involved in several misadventures, including running across childhood enemies and an escaped convict. Too poorly written and acted to be funny for these stand-up comedians, but it may appeal to those who liked the "Police Academy" series.
