The year is 1872, and Johnny Carver (George Montgomery) is serving a life sentence in prison when he is offered a deal. If he will track down Sam Bass (William Bishop) and his notorious outlaw gang, Carver will be given his freedom. Carver agrees to the deal but is more interested in seeking vengeance against The Sundance Kid (Ian MacDonald) who was responsible for sending him to prison. Problems lie ahead, but Carver finally decides to go along with the deal and tracks down Bishop.

Later, Jim and Wahoo conspire to capture a former cohort Sam McGee (Lloyd Nolan) whose gang is creating terror throughout the area. Followed by "The Texas Rangers Ride Again" and remade in 1949 as "Streets of Laredo."
