Alex believes their story and recommends that they go to Canada where they can be legally wed because in Canada gay marriage is legal. And, of course, gay jokes prevail throughout the film.

Randy Newman's song "If I Didn't Have You" won an Oscar, and his musical score was nominated. The film was also nominated for Best Animated Feature, a new category.

It was even renamed as "Me and the Mob" for video release to capitalize on the popular "Married to the Mob."
