The classic story of Washington Irving's Headless Horseman, who rides through the night on his galloping horse performing his own decapitations, is brought to the screen with Johnny Depp in the starring role of Ichabod Crane who is sent to investigate the crimes. When Ichabod arrives in the small, New York town, he is told that a number of decapitated people have been found, and the townsfolk believe it was the work of the legendary Headless Horseman. Ichabod does not believe the story, and, as he investigates, Ichabod meets and falls in love with Katrina Van Tassel (Christina Ricci) and becomes even more determined to find the murderer as a way to prove his worth to Katrina.
