Aging salesman Eddie Miller (Robert Forster) travels the Pennsylvania roads selling his diamonds to small-town jewelry stores. After a heart attack he is given a clean bill of health, but his company still thinks it's time for him to retire. His money is gone as a result of his late wife's cancer treatments so Eddie must work; thus, he resists retirement. He is, however, given a young man to train, which results in a new start in Eddie's life.
