The drug works, and Lowe is gradually awakened after 30 years. He experiences the wonder of life and love, and this success with L-DOPA encourages Sayer to administer the drug to his other patients. The team's owner (Garry Marshall) picks ex-baseball star Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks), who ruined his career with alcoholism, as the manager. Training begins, Dugan stops drinking, and the underdog team works hard and gains success.
