  Set in the early 1800s, this is the story of Anthony Adverse (Fredric March), an adventurer who runs afoul of Napoleon and heads for America to seek fame and fortune. Gale Sondergaard won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. The film won three other Academy Awards and nominations included Best Picture.
