Along the way, they are joined by members of other tribes whose members have also been taken prisoner by the marauders. By journey's end, they uncover the truth: their captured tribe members are serving as slaves for a lost civilization whose rulers are using them to build lofty pyramids. Now, D'Leh faces the fact that he is not only rescuing Evolet but all of civilization as well when he fights for the future of mankind.

Dan sees a way out of his financial problems when he is offered $200 to transport stagecoach robber Ben Wade (Russell Crowe) to Contention City where he is to catch the 3:10 train on the way to his hanging at the Yuma prison. Also serving with Dan on the assignment are Tucker (Kevin Durand) who burned down Ben's barn, railroad boss Grayson Butterfield (Dallas Roberts), Pinkerton agent Byron McElroy (Peter Fonda), and Dan's teenage son William. As Dan and Ben match wits along the trek, they also encounter problems with Apaches and Ben's gang–led by Charlie Prince (Ben Foster)–on what turns out to be a dangerous journey to catch the 3:10 to Yuma.   It's 1881 and famous bank/train robber Jesse James (Brad Pitt), at age 34, has had a turnover of gang members from retirement or having been killed. Even brother Frank (Sam Shepard) retired after the gang's last heist. Jesse even has a "day" job as a respected businessman using the name of Thomas Howard and has a trophy wife, Zee (Mary-Louise Parker), and two children. But the restless Jesse is putting together a new gang made up of second-rate gangsters, which includes young Bob (Casey Affleck) who has collected Jesse James clippings and stories since he was a small boy and idolized Jesse. Another problem that Jesse has is that there is a large bounty on him, dead or alive. As time passes, Bob becomes jealous of Jesse and with the reward he could receive, he decides to kill Jesse, which he does. An interesting study of the two men that is based on Ron Hansen's historical novel of the same name. The film received two Academy Award nominations including Best Supporting Actor (Affleck).
